That's quite a question! I had already read a lot of Wodehouse when I started but hadn't watched the series. I don't base my characters on HL & SF but some do. I'm hoping others will make suggestions. It's great that you want to write Jooster fic (btw, it took me forever to get used to that name!).
1) Read at least 2 short stories (not the one narrated by Jeeves. That was an experiment by Wodehouse and he abandoned it as a bad idea) or a novel. Preferably the latter. You get a great feel for the rhythm of the writing and how great Wodehouse was as a wordsmith. They're gutbustingly funny.
2) Watch several J & W eps on YouTube. Especially if you want to base your characters on the series
The basic facts are easy to learn but the rest of it very much derives from the media/writing.
