I was responding to the headcanon question and thought about some tropes in J&W kissing and sex scenes.
Bertie musses Jeeves's hair and sometimes it gets wavy or curly. Or it just gets mussed.
Here's the thing. When you look at men wearing brilliantine/hair creme/pomade in movies of the time, that shit ain't moving. And if it does, it's in sticky straight strands. The stickiness was probably okay for people at the time since it was standard. Once I went to a costume party with a date who used pomade on his hair--we had to buy Prell (the shampoo most like dishwashing detergent) and shampoo his hair daily for almost a week to get the stuff out!
Probably nobody actually wants that kind of realism but I can't help thinking about it when Bertie musses Jeeves's hair into wild curls.
Interesting! But yes you're right, mussed curls are so much cuter and otherwise plausible, so this is one place where I'm happy to let realism take a hike. :-)
