OMG that story is hilarious and adorable. And relevant because we're into juggling. But I'm realizing it should be something more explicit because the point is kind of to show what's hot about this pairing. I also agree that watching another episode first would probably be smart.

What about one of the fills from this comm? What are your favorite fics/styles etc.? That might be a place to start.

Suppose there is a fandom newbie. What do they have to know before they can start writing a Jooster fic? Any must have reads/seens or basic facts?

That's quite a question! I had already read a lot of Wodehouse when I started but hadn't watched the series. I don't base my characters on HL & SF but some do. I'm hoping others will make suggestions. It's great that you want to write Jooster fic (btw, it took me forever to get used to that name!).

1) Read at least 2 short stories (not the one narrated by Jeeves. That was an experiment by Wodehouse and he abandoned it as a bad idea) or a novel. Preferably the latter. You get a great feel for the rhythm of the writing and how great Wodehouse was as a wordsmith. They're gutbustingly funny.

2) Watch several J & W eps on YouTube. Especially if you want to base your characters on the series

The basic facts are easy to learn but the rest of it very much derives from the media/writing.

My instinct says that if you know enough about the fandom to consider yourself a fan, then you must automatically know enough to write! But I agree with

cuddyclothes that reading a few short stories and watching a few episodes if you haven't already will be a big help.

I also have turned to Wikipedia a lot to learn more about Wodehouse and get an overview of the characters and canon.

After reading this I feel way more confident. Thank you!

If you're worried about your English, you can give it to a beta to look over...although I'm not sure how you'd do that with everyone being anonymous.

I have this headcanon about Spode that he's romantic and gentle as a lover. I also like to imagine him as secretly gay and a total sub. 😋

What I would like to know is how homosexuality was handeled as a crime back then. What exactly was punishable and what would the punishment have been? Was there anything gay one could have done without fearing punishment?

Personally, I feel that Oscar Wilde is used much too much in Jooster fanfic. He wasn't the only gay man punished for being gay.

I'm currently considering returning to this game. I would be going for the same pairing of course.

I have this headcanon about Bill Belfry being the only one who knows about Bertie's romantic interested in Jeeves. Bill is secretly bisexual himself but decided to only ever follow the safe path. He once had a crush on Bertie and is still very fond of him. Bill never tried to become one of Bertie's closer friends, is content with admiring him from afar but he cares about Bertie like none of Bertie's other friends and pays close attention to him. That's why things are obvious to Bill whenever he hears Bertie talking about Jeeves. After getting to know Jeeves, Bill hopes for Jeeves to notice and return Bertie's feelings.

Who is Bill Belfry? An OC?

William Belfry, Ninth Earl of Rowcester is the main character in the novel "Ring for Jeeves". Jeeves works for him as temporary butler while Bertie is away.
