Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?

Re: Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?
It kinda reminds me of watching an adaptation of a Douglas Adams book only not quite as confusing. (I am a big fan of Dirk Gently but I watched it more bc I love the characters than trying to follow the plot lol)
Re: Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?
Never seen Dirk Gently unfortunately! I do get strong Douglas Adams vibes from both the comedy and a lot of the space stuff. But then again, Hitchhiker's Guide is my main point of reference for all of sci-fi/space travel, I'm not very familiar with the genre. The ship's intrusive ads and brand messaging and shameless self-marketing seem like they're a similar type of parody to the Heart of Gold/Sirius Cybernetics Corporation. Plus there's that same concept of a huge, expensive, cutting-edge piece of advanced technology being run by a bunch of irresponsible idiots who barely understand it.
Re: Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?
ah yes, the marriage is so cute!! I was thrilled to see those relationships represented! At the same time if he's gonna be stuck in space for so long I kind of want him to hook up with that blond lady who's unhappily married (or she & her husband are having a little dispute--we'll see)?
I lol'd at the...spoiler alert...things orbiting the ship like it's a planet.
Judd reminds me of someone in Hitchhiker's Guide but it's been so long since I've seen it. I just vaguely remember a dumb but well-meaning guy with blond-ish hair--like him but more of a d-bag lol. (I highly recommend Dirk Gently if you get a chance! There are a lot of characters I love but Dirk has the same dumbass energy as Bertie Wooster and I would die for him.)
Re: Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?
Oh yeah, I would guess you're thinking of Zaphod, who is kind of a dumb blond type, though he's supposed to be more of a charming rogue, unlike Judd who's less sympathetic because his arrogance comes at a cost to others.
I just added Dirk Gently to my never-ending list of things to watch, so thanks for the rec!
Re: Is anyone else watching Avenue 5?
Also it's hilarious how much Ryan is becoming less "The Captain" and more like Hugh Laurie as the show goes on--I mean, first the accent and now the hair! He looks great, actually maybe even better. ^_^ I've had a feeling that he and Billie would eventually get together, though maybe not anymore at this point. She's the smartest person on that ship and would deserve better anyway lol.
