Quick note on underwear...

I've got a movie on in the background, "Gentleman's Fate" (1931), starring John Gilbert and Leilia Hyams. It opened with man-about-town Gilbert leaping out of bed at 7:30 and banging on his valet's door. His valet has obviously just gotten up and says, "you never get up before noon, sir". Gilbert pulls the valet into the living room. The valet is wearing old-fashioned long underwear and there are some corny jokes about the valet wanting to pull on his trousers but Gilbert hustling him around.
