Someone asked about discussing prompts and fills. So here's an entry. As always, comment moderation is off, IP address logging is off. To start a thread, put the name of the prompt/kink you're discussing so we can keep them all straight.

omorashi prompts

I don't want to discuss a specific prompt or fill but I hope I can use this thread for asking a quick question.
I would like to post another omorashi prompt (more than one actually) but here is so much of it already and I don't want to... flood the thread with further variations and bother the people who are not into it. I know it's usually one of the lesser tolerated kinks. On the other hand here seem to be people who share this kink and it feels like a rare chance. What to do?

I say definitely go for it. Kink thread = no judgment = no kink is more or less valid than any other! We're all here to let our freak flags fly, just as the intro to the prompt thread instructs. I agree that it's a rare chance, so seize the moment!

Thanks for asking! You can post clean prompts at indeedsir. They have a tag called "plot bunny farm" so you can make a post there. There are probably writers there who would like prompts!

But if you would prefer to post it here, go ahead. We've had some lovely non-kink fills, like "Sweetness".

I have a question about the "Jeeves wearing black leather gloves, solo" (https://give-satisfaction.dreamwidth.org/2406.html?thread=16486#cmt16486) prompt. I think Jeeves wears these kinds of gloves but idk if Bertie does, too. Does anyone who's familiar with canon know if he does? Can I just assume that he might? Or would that not be a safe assumption because it's more like part of Jeeves's uniform/not something an aristocrat would wear?
I ask because I want to know if the point of this prompt is "Jeeves is into leather/masturbates with his own gloves" or if it could be "Jeeves is into Bertie and therefore masturbates with Bertie's gloves."

Jeeves always wears black gloves because they go with his uniform. Bertie, on the other hand, wears different colored gloves, accessorizing his outfit. Because of Jeeves, Bertie is a fashion plate!

I'm writing a fill and want to get the language right, so I have another question for y'all! Does Bertie use metric or imperial units for weight? For example, would he say something weighed a few pounds or a few kilograms? I'm not from the UK and I feel like a mixture of the two tends to get used.

If memory serves, Wodehouse wrote for both the US and UK markets, so he tended to use pounds/ounces for weight, dollars for money (although the latter might be different in the British editions). Anyone else care to weigh in?

canon timeline question

Is there something like a timeline for the canon stories to be found somewhere? Or can someone tell me how many years lie between the first and the last story?

The timeline is extremely unclear. The stories mostly exist out of time (and out of continuity). The early stories were published in 1924 and the last in (I think) the late 60s and mentioned a protest march. Other than that, they are always more or less the same. Save for a few passing references, real world events don't take place in Wodehouse's world.

You might try asking at indeedsir. Or looking at the LJ indeedsir. They've got an excellent tagging system, and doubtless someone there has made one.

Canon Timeline

This is a heavily researched timeline from Tumblr. She posits nine years, from 1925-1934, with 'Ring For Jeeves' being post-war, late 40s or 50s.

Other than rough chronology, I set my stories in the 1930s because I like it better. Given how long a period was when the books were published (1925 - 1974) a writer has a lot to play with!

Ganymede

I read the side discussion about Ganymede in the kinkiness thread and I would like to add that sometimes servants were refered to as Ganymedes because of Ganymede's role as cupbearer.

There's a lovely fic by Not_You on AO3 about Bertie being the descendant of Cupid and Jeeves being the descendant of Ganymede. "Of Silver Cups And Golden Arrows".

Another canon/time period question for a fill! What is Jeeves's educational history likely to be? Would a servant/valet go to boarding school and/or university? Or just homeschooling while he's working? Definitely never a private school, right? What were the terms for that era's equivalents to high school/grade school?

Not a mod but I'm pretty sure the answer is: go for it! Always great to get feedback. Plus the "oldest" fills are only from like April, that's still pretty recent.

Not at all. Writers write in all sorts of styles. Write how you want, there are no rules.
