In the 1960s, Tom Lehrer was a popular comic songwriter. His humor was dark and considered "in bad taste" by some. He taught mathematics at Harvard while recording and touring. When I was little, "Poisoning Pigeons In The Park" was my favorite song. My childhood best friend's parents would egg me on to sing it, for which my childhood best friend has never forgiven me.

When I heard this song again recently, it immediately made me think of fanfic writers and readers the world round.

"Stories of tortures, used by debauchers, lewd, lascivious and vile...make me smile".

This is from a concert in Copenhagen in 1967.

My interpretation is that Lehrer is saying let your freak flag fly and never be ashamed of what you enjoy!

Being obsessive, I finished the song-lists for "Jeeves And Wooster" and "Thank You, Jeeves." I tracked down original recordings (mostly) and posted them on Tumblr.

47 Ginger-Headed Sailors, Nagasaki, Puttin' On The Ritz

Ever So Goosey, Good Night Vienna, Oh! By Jingo This also includes a 1950s musical version by Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor of "Oh by Jingo" which is very odd.

I Lift Up My Finger, Minnie The Moocher, Sunny Disposish

Songs from "Thank You Jeeves". This took several posts and I might have missed a few.

Coming Up Next! The Banjolele!

Bertie mentions playing "Old Man River". Later, the session that breaks Jeeves:

“With a good deal of quiet self-satisfaction I proceeded to play ‘The Wedding of the Painted Doll’, ‘Singin’ In the Rain’, ‘Three Little Words’, ‘Good Night, Sweetheart’, ‘My Love Parade’, ‘Spring Is Here’,   ‘Whose Baby Are You’, and part of ‘I Want an Automobile With a Horn That  Goes Toot-Toot’, in the order named.”   (The last one, regrettably, is an invention by PGW)

Banjolele Time! Old Man River, Wedding Of The Painted Doll, Singing In The Rain (from Hollywood Revue of 1929)

Banjolele Time! Part Two!  Three Little Words, Good Night Sweetheart, My Love Parade, Spring Is Here

Banjolele Time! Part Three! Whose Baby Are You? Body And Soul,

These are songs Bertie offered to play for Jeeves to lure him back:

Banjolele Time! Part Four ! What Is Thing Called Love? Easy To Love

"Thank You, Jeeves" was published in 1934. Most of the original recordings are from 1929/30. The "Jeeves And Wooster" songs are also from roughly the same period.
