I am moderately embarrassed to admit that I get fashion inspiration from J&W sometimes. I'm a young American woman who occasionally dresses like an old British man. I just love dapper menswear and tweed and sock garters and stuff. It wouldn't be so bad if I just had a consistent vintage style or were a proper legit cosplayer, the problem is, my wardrobe is a hot mess. I don't care enough to do my research so it's just a mishmash of old-timey clothes from different eras and styles. 😂

I think having a mixture-style is quite all right!
My brother e.g. has the most amazing mixture of Gopnik/Gatsby, and looks really cool (most of the time).
I also have a lot of different items, mostly vintage (incl. a number of hand-me-downs from my brother-in-law to my great-uncle).
Anything is better than another Hollister-zombie...

I can add a confession here and I'm afraid I have to warn you that it deals with some past negativity but believe me I feel really, really bad about it now. Oh dear... *takes a deep breath*
The first time I watched Jeeves and Wooster I only made it about 5 minutes into the first episode, then decided that kind of humor was way too silly for me and gave up on it. Forgive me, but to tell you the ugly truth, back then I simply could not stand seeing "that House actor" not being able to get a single word out. I thought that it was terribly annoying and stupid and I just hated it. 😳
Later after reading Wodehouse I returned to the TV series and became a fan.

I had a similar reaction! Back in 2006 or so. I thought all the "I say!" stuff was pretty embarrassing and cringeworthy and I didn't get the humor. I couldn't believe what "that House actor" used to look/sound like. But I finished the episode, and then the series, and now I can't see him as anything but extremely adorable and handsome in it. And I came to appreciate the humor a lot.

Wodehouse wrote over 90 books and of those, 12 are "Jeeves" novels, as he called them. He started out writing short stories. See the group profile for the website of his early writings. The Jeeves novels were by far the most popular.

Hugh Laurie kind of came out of nowhere for me. I'd seen some Blackadder but not enough to make a strong impression. I was a hardcore House fan. So there has needed to be a few years for me to adjust to the idea of Hugh as Bertie Wooster!

I think I started reading fanfic before I got into the series. Not sure. I have a bunch of the books and read them as well.

I'm pretty sure I also read fanfic before the books. Certainly I've read way more fanfic than I've read of the books.

He had never seemed sexy to me. Cute and brilliant but not sexy. Then suddenly I was like god DAMN I want to have sex with that man! And I'm not really sure what turned it around. Just that it turned around at some point.

(I know it's on the black list for the fics here but I don't know if I may mention it as a confession. If not then please forgive me and just delete my post).

Although I don't ship the actors I read RPS fics about them. They shock me and make me feel kind of uncomfortable but if I find one I will read it. It's like those shocking articles Google likes to offer.

Ring for Jeeves used to be my least favourite Jeeves book. I felt like I needed to think of a good justification for why Bill should be so important to deserve a whole novel. I ended up with a nice headcanon and fell in love with it. Now I like Ring for Jeeves and Bill a lot. XD

I was about to ask a question on another thread and realized that half of what I wrote was a confession so I will move that part to this place.

Before getting into the Jeeves fandom I never had much interest in learning about what the world was like before my time. That's why all I know about their time is what I learned from the Jeeves books, show and fandom. 😳

It's great that P. G. Wodehouse gave us one story narrated by Jeeves but I think that fans usually write Jeeves' POV way better than Wodehouse did.

To get a better understanding of Jeeves I'm reading Spinoza's 'The Ethics'. I suppose I'm taking things too seriously.

I own a complete set of the Jeeves stories already but I can't resist buying doubles when I see an edition that has Fry and Laurie on the cover.

I read too much porny Jeeves fic and have so many naughty thoughts about Jeeves that I sometimes forget that PGW's books are harmless. XD
My groceries shopper showed up earlier than expected and I had not cleared my table. There was enough room for what he brought so it wasn't a problem but when I saw that I had a Jeeves book lying on the table and my shopper glanced at it my mind went: "Good Lord! He must not see what stuff I'm into!" I snatched the book as if it were some kind of hardcore porn magazine. It was such an embarrassing overreaction. LOL

A friend of mine wanted to know the genre of the Jeeves stories and I accidentally said romantic comedy! 🤦‍♂️ Then I quickly corrected that it's actually just comedy and not romantic. 😅
